Stockholm is Sweden’s capital and its cultural, political, medial and economic center. The city is both Sweden’s and the Nordic region’s largest urban area with a population that, in 2015, was measured to 1,515,017 inhabitants. The city is built around 20 islands and the inner city consists of 14 of them with islands that connect everything and make Stockholm a unique big city with a lot of water.
Stockholm
Stockholm archipelago
A must when visiting Stockholm, especially during the summer months. It consists of almost 30 000 islands and is the largest archipelago in Sweden. It’s recommended to take at least one of the guided boat cruises that is offered from the city centre but if you have the time, try one of the longer ferry trips where you get off on one of the larger islands and spend a few hours- maybe visit a restaurant or bring a picnic bag and a blanket. Just make sure not to lose track of time and miss the ferry back to Stockholm!
Djurgården
Is a large island part of the inner Stockholm. Djurgården is famous for its many sights and nature with many ancient oak trees. Otherwise, Djurgården consists of park areas with a number of museums, cultural history interesting villas, embassies and other institutions. The island is easily accessed by crossing a bridge walking, by bus or trolley. Or why not a bicycle? People from all over the world visit Djurgården mainly because of its famous attractions you can find here.
Skansen
On Djurgården you find the city zoo that also is a large open air museum consisting of almost 150 old Scandinavian buildings whereas the oldest being from the 1300. In Skansen the focus lays mainly on animals and history but also a great deal of culture is celebrated here. On the Solliden stage there are televised concerts once a week during the summer months.
The Vasa Museum
The Vasa ship is the only preserved ship from the 1600 in the world and it’s definitely worth a visit. Its grand size and all its embellishments together with all the history presented throughout the museum is what makes this museum one of Stockholm most visited attractions.
Old Town in Stockholm
The oldest part of the city centre of Stockholm that previously was referred to as "the town between the bridges". Old town became what is now the capital of Sweden which later started growing outward. The island consists of old buildings, medieval allyways, restaurants and shops. Here you can find the Royal Palace, museums and the Stockholm Cathedral and the area breaths history.
